| World-Region Codes... and How to Unlock Them. | |
| I I I |
|
| This is just a short Article about the World-Region Codes that are programmed into DVD players. If you just want to know what your options are for unlocking these Codes: [Click Here.] | |

| If you live in the United States or Canada... you're limited to playing pricey DVDs from region 1 [North America.] And if you live in the United Kingdom... you're trapped in expensive region 2 [Europe.] But what if you've been overseas and bought a load of cheap DVDs in one of the other Regions? Or picked up a good deal on the Internet? Well, chances are they aren't going to work... [unless they happen to be cheap pirated copies which aren't protected by any Code.] | |

| Most DVD players are perfectly capable of playing films from other regions... but the Industry uses a system of Regional Codes to prevent you. This is a deliberate act by DVD makers and Film companies and there is no benefit to you whatsoever in having a region locked player. These days more and more people are using the Internet to import cheap DVDs. Quite reasonably people think there is no reason why they should pay $20-30 for a DVD if they can buy it elsewhere for $5. | |

| About 95% of DVD Players can unlock the Regional Code simply by using their remote control handset. [A few models may require a new chipped handset... and any modifications may affect the warranty.] It is generally a case of accessing a secret part of the menu not shown in the handbook... and then typing in the correct code number. Instructions for models vary quite a bit and each one has a different security code. But... provided you have all the right directions... your DVD could be unlocked in just a few seconds. | |

| Want to Unlock your DVD Player? | |
| If you want to unlock the Regional Code on your DVD player or your Computer... then you have a number of choices. Most things you see advertised will work... but it basically comes down to this... Price and Convenience. It could cost you anything from $0-50... the cheapest options are the most inconvenient... but depending on your circumstances... any of the following options could be right for you. | |
| I | |
| Option 1. | |
| The Information is out there... and it's possible you could find out this Information for free. Type in something like "unlock DVD code" into Google... you should be able to find some links to Forums... you can make a post on these Forums asking if anyone has the instructions to unlock... this Make... this Model. If someone sends you a reply, it costs you nothing. The Downside... you could spend a lot of time... making a lot of posts... checking back for a response... and never get one. And even if you do... at best you've saved a couple of dollars. | |

| Option 2. | |
| Again... do a Google search... but follow one of the Sponsored Links to ebay. People sell this Information at auction... usually there is a 'Buy it Now' option for about $3.00 [£1.50] You can also place a bid for less... which might be successful... but you will have to wait for the auction to finish. They will then send you a simple e-mail which is just a few lines and has the instructions for one model. If you have more than one DVD player and/or a Computer then this option can start to become expensive for what it is: [i.e. 2 DVD players and a Computer = $9 for 3 e-mails.] | |
| I | |
| Option 3. | |
| Is very similar to the last option. You will see many Adverts on Google... but most of them will lead to the same few websites. There are a couple of websites which are dedicated to this... you look up you make and model... pay about $5.00 [£2.50] and they will send you a simple e-mail for that one model. Again, if you have more than one model this starts to get expensive: [i.e. 2 DVD players and a Computer = $15] | |
| I | |
| Option 4. | |
| Is the biggest player in the field. At the time of writing "DVD Unlocker" were selling their downloadable software for $9.95 [£5.00] It's a bit more expensive... but you do get a lot more for your money. Basically, you get all the Info! You can look up any make/model belonging to your friends or relatives and unlock theirs as well. [The Advert at the top/bottom of the page is for this company. It is a very good option... whether it is the best option for you... depends on your circumstances.] The following are a few of the selling points taken from their site... click DVD Unlocker Software for full details. | |

| There is the option of having your remote control re-chipped if necessary but these are done of a more individual basis... you will probably need to get a quote. | |
| I | |
| Option 6. | |
| If you are a complete technophobe... and you've got money to burn then the final option might appeal to you. That is you track down someone who is doing this full time... and get them to come around to your home and do it all for you. Likely to cost... $50.00+ [£25.00+] | |
| I | |
| These are all the basic options... we hope you have found this Information useful... | |
